Places on the Residential Grant Writing Retreat 2017 are limited and teams must meet the eligibility criteria to be considered for the competition to win a place. The conditions of entry are described below. However, if you have any questions about these or any other aspect of the application process then please refer to the FAQs and/or submit a query.

Conditions of entry

  • Each team must comprise three individuals, at least one of whom must be employed in a practitioner capacity in a health, public health or social care organisation within the regions covered by RDS SW and RDS SC. For guidance on the geographical area from which applications are accepted, please refer to the map.

The team must be working on a grant proposal for a research project or programme, not an individual training award (such as a fellowship). Previous research experience is not a prerequisite for all members of the team, but the ability of the team to undertake the project will be taken into consideration in the selection process. Multi-disciplinary teams with varied research experience will be considered favourably, and a mix of clinical and academic skills and experience is preferable. The team may include service users or carers (the Retreat venue is fully ‘accessible’, however we are unable to provide carer support). The individuals named on the application form must be the people who will actually attend for the duration of the Retreat if the application is successful.
  • Applications for the Retreat must be submitted by 1pm Wednesday 26 April 2017. The more effort you put into an outline proposal and literature search the better your chances of being selected to attend. Indicative criteria for the assessment of the quality of the proposals are available on this website and you are strongly advised to read these prior to application.

You are also strongly recommended to discuss your proposal with your local RDS SW or RDS SC office. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their applications by the end of May 2017.
  • Teams are responsible for ensuring that funding to cover their participation is in place. Places cost £2,850 per team. Most teams attending in previous years have obtained funding from their Trusts, which have been very supportive of this event.
  • Teams need to recognise that the residential part of this event is only one component of the project development support package offered by the Retreat. Teams are expected to work with their local RDS before submitting their application, and continue to work with them after the Retreat to finalise their grant application. Teams awarded a place will be given feedback on their application and asked to provide a new draft before the Retreat itself.

All members of the team named on the application form must:

  1. Be free to attend for the duration of the Retreat from Monday 4 September to
Friday 8 September 2017 inclusive on a fully residential basis
  2. Send a current summary CV (no more than two sides of A4 please).

Teams must make a full application by 1pm Wednesday 26 April 2017 using the application form.
